Checkered CAL Week Two

Welcome Back!
How’s your week one progress coming along? Whether you are just now picking out your color scheme or you have worked ahead and finished your project, I’m glad you are here! And yes, at least one person is already done with their cardi and it is adorable!
If you need to catch up, don’t worry – there’s plenty of time! Start here, with the crochet-a-long overview and then move on to the Week One instructions here! By the end of week one, you should have worked through the first 25 rows of the baby sized projects or the first 30 rows of the child sized projects!
Remember, if you still need a pattern, you can grab them on Etsy and use the code CHECKEREDCAL to save 25% on ALL checkered wearable patterns and mods. Find the patterns here and click the “wearables” section from the left-side menu to make them easy to find.
Special congratulations to @thingsandstuffbylindsay who is our week one “wheel of names” winner! The Week One giveaway is The Large Poltergeist Pillow ! Week Two’s giveaway is the brand new Checkered Boo Pillow. If you share your project progress this week and tag me, you’ll be entered with a chance to win!

Week TWO
Week One was all about the checkers. Rows 1-25 or 1-30 are all worked in a block like fashion for the beginning of the project! You should have one long swatch of checkers. If you are working on a mod, you will have the mod portion started in the middle of your swatch!
This week, we will work on continuing to work up the back panel and then adding the front panels. This is done in pieces, to give our projects room for the arms! By the end of this week, your project should look like this –

First, we’ll continue working up the back of the project. If you are working on a mod, you will finish the mod! Pay special attention to rows 26 and 31 here…they are partial rows that start working the shape for sleeves. The rest of the back panel rows will be worked as one block until you get to the top portion, where you will shape the neck as outlined in your pattern. If you have questions about this part, please let me know!
Once the back panel is finished, the front panels will be added. These are each worked separately, so you’ll have to cut and rejoin your yarn on each side. As you work up the front panel, you’ll notice that one side starts to slant. This is to give some shape to the front of the project. The slants will line up just on one side! Finish both the left and right side front panels. Weave those ends in and then that’s it! You crushed week two!
Now, turn your project over and fold your front panels in. You should have something that looks like this!

Adult Modifications:
All patterns should follow as written for the child and baby sizes but if you are attempting an adult modification, you’ll need some changes here!
The back panel will continue as written in the child sized OG pattern or in any of the mods. Once you get to the front panels, the basic steps will be the same but you’ll have an extra set of checkers on either side of the panel to add some width to the front. This means you’ll need to add some slant to your front panels to give shape to the front!
Follow these front panel instructions rather than those written in the child sized pattern. Remember! These instructions have not been officially tested. If you think you’ve found an error, please let me know! I am working on getting an official adult sized pattern ready, but sharing these modifications in the meantime for the CAL!
Left Panel:
With the right side facing up, attach Color A at the stitch marker placed in the final stitch of row 31 above. Ch 1 and continue below.

Right Panel:
With the wrong side facing up, attach Color B at the stitch marker placed in the middle of row 31. Ch 1 and continue.

Once you’ve finished your front panels, fold your work into the vest shape. Use the tails at the top of the shoulder to whip stitch the two sides together. You can chose to use the same end for both checks, or use the tail that matches the check you are working on. Weave in the ends and voila! You’re ready for week three!
That’s all for now! Remember, if you have questions, ask away in the IG support group!
