Unicorn Tom Disguise
Let’s help Tom stay hidden away this Thanksgiving! Follow the pattern below to create a unicorn costume!

To make this unicorn costume, you’ll need bulky weight yarn and a 5.0 mm and 6.5 mm hook. For this sample, I used Premier Parfait Chunky! The body is meant to fit loosely. If you prefer a tighter fit, size down a hook!

MAKING THE BODY:
Use a 6.5 mm hook and white yarn for the body.
Row 1: To begin, ch 21. Working in the second ch from the hook, sc x 21 across. [20]

Row 4: sc inc, sc x 22, sc inc. [26]
Rows 5-8: sc x 26 across. [26]
Row 9: sc2tog x 2, sc x 18, sc2tog x 2. [22]

Row 13: sc2tog, sc x 3, sc2tog, sc x 3, sc2tog. [9]
Row 14: sc2tog, sc x 2, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog. [6]
Row 15: sc x 6. [6]
Now, ch 6. Re-attaching at the st marker in Row 9, sc x 8 along the side. sc x 20 across the bottom. sc x 8 along the side. At the st marker in Row 9, ch 6 and attach to the top row of the body. Sl st x 6 across the top. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Cut black felt in the shape of a jack-o-lantern face and attach to the body piece using fabric glue.
MAKING THE HAT:
Use a 6.5 mm hook and white yarn for the hat.
Round 1: Make a magic circle. Place 6 sc in the MC. Continue to work in the round. [6]
Round 2: [sc inc] x 6 around. [12]
Round 3: [sc, sc inc] x 6 around. [18]
Round 4: [sc, sc inc, sc] x 6 around. [24]
Round 5: In this round, add the chains for the straps of the head piece. [sc inc, sc x 3] x 3, ch 19.
Working back along the ch, sl st x 18. Working back on the hat, [sc inc, sc x 3] x 3. [30]
Round 6: sc, ch 19. Working back along the ch sl x 18. Working back on the hat, sc, sc inc, sc x 2. [sc x 2, sc inc, sc x 2] x 5. [36]
Round 7: sl st x 36 around. The ch straps should hang down on the bottom of the hat. Weave ends.
MAKING THE HORN:
Use a 5.0 mm hook and desired horn color for this part.
Round 1: Make a magic circle. Work 4 sc into the MC. Continue to work in the round.[4]
Round 2: sc inc, sc x 3. [5]
Round 3: sc inc, sc x 4. [6]
Round 4: [sc inc, sc x 2] x 3 around. [9]
Round 5: sc x 9 around. [9]
Round 6: sc x 3, sc inc x 3, sc x 6. [12]
Rounds 7-8: sc x 12 around. [12]
*If you’d like your horn to be taller, add additional rounds after round 8.
After completing the rounds, cut yarn and tie off. Leave a long tail to sew to the top of the unicorn hat.
ASSEMBLING THE HAT:
After completing the horn, sew to the front center of the hat. Stuff the horn lightly as you sew.

To add the unicorn hair, grab desired hair colors. For this sample, I used five different colors of Premier Parfait Chunky. Using a 5.0 mm hook, join the desired color to the base of the horn on the hat. You will each hair strand directly onto the hat to avoid sewing.

ch 16. Working in the second ch from the hook, sc inc x 15. [30]
*If you desire slightly thicker hair strands, work hdc inc sts in each ch rather than sc sts.
Once you’ve worked back up the chain, cut yarn and tie to the beginning strand to secure. Pull the ends through to the inside of the hat and either weave the ends, or tie them off and cut. Repeat this process for each desired hair color strand.
