Block Eight: Vertical Stripes
In block eight we’ll create vertical stripes using two different colors.

Block Eight uses alternating blocks of double crochet stitches in two colors to create vertical stripes. The method I use below is different than other vertical stripe tutorials that I’ve seen, but it allowed me to create the stripes without having a bunch of ends to weave, which is a win in my book! BLOCK EIGHT: Cluster V-Stitch
Estimated Block Size for Single Strand Scarf: ~7″ x 9.5″
“a” rows will be worked in Color A while “b” rows will be worked in Color H.
Row 1a: Working in Color A or desired color, turn and ch 2. Starting in the same st as the ch 2, [dc x 4. ch 4 and sk 4 sts] x 3. dc x 4. ch 2 and pause. Do not cut yarn – continue to Row 1b. [28]
Row 1b: Beginning in the first sk st in Row 1a, join Color H and ch 2. You will work over the chain from Row 1a. Starting in the same st as the ch 2, dc x 4. [ch 4 and sk 4 sts. dc x 4] x 2. ch 2 and pause. Do not cut yarn – continue to Row 2a.

Row 2a: Working in Color A, turn. Starting in the same st as the ch 2, [dc x 4. ch 4 and sk 4 sts] x 3. dc x 4. ch 2 and pause. Do not cut yarn – continue to next Row b. [28]
Row 2b: Working in Color H and starting in the same st as the ch 2, dc x 4. [ch 4 and sk 4 sts. dc x 4] x 2. ch 2 and pause. Do not cut yarn – continue to next Row a. [28]
Rows 3-10: Continue to alternate “a” Rows and “b” Rows. to create stripes for rows 3-10.
*After row 10a, do not fasten off Color A. Continue to row 11a.
*After row 10b, fasten off Color H and weave in the ends.
Row 11a: Working in Color A, turn. Starting in the same st as the ch 2, [dc x 4. ch 4
and sk 4 sts] x 3. dc x 4. On the final stitch, cut Color A, place a stitch marker and you are ready for Block Nine!
