Block Six: The Striped Linen/Moss Stitch
Moving along on the second half of The Stitchwork Scarf, we’re on to Block Six!

Block Six features the Moss or Linen Stitch. I’ve also seen this stitch called the Granite or Seed Stitch, so lots of terms to refer to this type of stitch! This stitch uses a series of alternating single crochet stitches and chain stitches to create a woven-like design. With this stitch, you will repeatedly sc, ch 1 and skip a stitch. Simple stitches, but a beautiful effect!
For our block, we will switch colors every two rows to create a striped look. You can choose to stripe as outlined in the pattern OR use a single color. If you are switching colors, you’ll need to cut the yarn and weave in ends at every color switch.
One note before we get started! When working the chain 1 stitches, be sure to keep your tension loose. If you have tight tension on these stitches then you may find that your block turns out too tight! Blocking at the end of the pattern will help, but not if the stitches are overly tight. If you find that you are having a tough time keeping tension loose, you can size up a hook size!

As this block uses simple, repetitive stitches, I do not have a step-by-step photo tutorial. However, if you find yourself confused or needing help, feel free to reach out! You can also view the video tutorial HERE!
