Louis the Lion – A FREE Amigurumi Lion Pattern
Meet Louis! He’s a big-hearted lion on the hunt for adventure. Made in collaboration with Hobbii, this lovable pal is a FREE amigurumi lion pattern. Read on to find out how to grab the free downloadable pdf and check out my review of Hobbii yarns!

I had the opportunity to dream up Louis for the #hobbiibestfriends campaign. With a little bit of whimsy and a dose of creativity, Louis came to life! He is a great, cuddly companion. With long legs and floppy arms, he’s perfect for snuggling. Textured bobbles on his body and loops of soft hair on his head make him great for sensory input as well!

This pattern is an amigurumi style design best for advanced beginner to intermediate crocheters. The pattern uses multiple techniques including working in the round and working with textured stitches like the bobble stitch and the loop stitch. It is recommended to use the yarn under technique when working with amigurumi. The pattern can be made in any type of size four worsted weight yarn! Bobbles can be added or omitted to the body of the pattern to diversify the texture and color of the design. Bobbles could be the same body color, striped color or multi-color bobbles to add some whimsy to the design.
To design Louis, I used Hobbii yarns for the first time and I’m hooked! No pun intended 🙂 I’ve been hesitant to order from Hobbii in the past because I just like being able to see and feel my yarn in person. It’s hard to just pick a skein off of a screen and stash up! Apparently, I need that textured input to really commit! However, with JoAnns stores closing (so sad!) my in-person yarn options have suddenly become more limited. Hobbii has a large selection of yarns on their website with a multitude of variation in terms of size, texture and color. I found a few that I thought would be perfect for this free lion amigurumi pattern!

For this pattern, I used two different types of Hobbii yarns – Daily Stitch Wool Blend in Gold Dust (27), Chocolate (12) and Oatmilk (03) and Cascata in Inga (03). Daily Stitch was used for the bulk of the pattern, while Cascata was just used for a bit of color on the bobbles!
Daily Stitch is a wool blend made of 80% acrylic and 20% wool. I was drawn to the vibrant colors available in a wide range! Wool Blend is machine washable, which is a MUST for toys meant for little ones. If you have kids like mine, they love hard on their little lovies and a wash is essential every now and then! Wool Blend is soft, durable and works up nicely. I didn’t notice any splitting of the yarn and it was easy to work with. Since designing this sweet little lion, my son has played pretty rough and tumble with him! Yet Louis still looks good as new! The stitches remain secure and defined and I haven’t noticed any pilling, which can happen sometimes with those well-loved cuddlies!
I used Cascata on the bobbles and I was so intrigued by this yarn! Cascata is a blend of 61% cotton and 39% premium acrylic. I was drawn to the beautiful color changes within the skein itself and the vibrancy of color options. I chose a more muted palette to make my lion, but I love some of the bright color options available! Cascata is a tubular type yarn and is incredibly soft and easy to work with. The threads just glide right through your finger and the slight elasticity of the yarn makes it simple and smooth. It is also machine washable, so will hold up to those necessary washes!

Now that I’ve tried Hobbii yarns, I am sure that I will be trying many more! The colors are vibrant, the texture is soft and the quality is impeccable! They have a variety of price points and seem to run quite a few sales! Check out some Hobbii yarn for your next project!
