FREE PATTERN: I Scream, You Scream….

…We all Scream for ICE CREAM!

Summertime has arrived and with it, the perfect excuse for pints of ice cream! But, who loves having their ice cream pint drip all over them as they try to gobble it down under the sun? The Bobble Dots Cozy solves that problem by keeping your ice cream pint cozy and saving your hands from being too cold or getting wet with drips as your ice cream starts to chill!

I am so excited to share that this ice cream cozy pattern was made as a designer spotlight feature for the July subscription box for Kitchener Yarn Co! Kristy has put together the cutest box of goodies for this subscription box, including everything needed to make your very own ice cream cozy! Click here to grab your subscription box and read on for the free pattern. Paid pdf pattern will be available in my Etsy and Ravelry shops in August if you prefer!

SPECIAL NOTES

This pattern is worked in the round. There is NO join at the end of each round. In order to keep the bobbles in a spiral pattern, and not falling on top of each other, the pattern is not a simple repeat! I recommend using a stitch marker for the beginning of each round. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out!

If you use a thicker weight yarn, you may have to size down a hook size in order to make sure your cozy isn’t too big for your ice cream pint. Test gauge prior to starting if you are concerned about the final fit! If your cozy turns out too tall, you can use single crochets rather than half double crochets on round 18 or omit that row altogether. If your cozy turns out too short, you can add an extra row of single crochet after round 18.

When creating my cozy, I prefer to make my bobbles on the right side. You can choose to make them on the right or wrong side – just make sure that the bobbles are on the outside of the body when you finish your piece! This may require you to turn your body inside out. You may also need to crochet in the front loop only, rather than the back loop only, on round 8 so that your ridge is on the outside.

If you would like for your cozy to have stripes as shown in the photo, you will switch to your desired stripe color for each of the bobbled rows (rows 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17). You will use the color ONLY on these rows and will switch back to the main color for the rows in between.

PATTERN

You will not join at the end of each round, unless otherwise indicated. You will continue to work in the round. If your cozy is turning out slightly tall for your pint, you can either use single crochet instead of half double crochet on round 17 or you can omit the final bobble row (round 16) This will make your cozy slightly shorter to accommodate different types of ice cream pints!

  1. To begin, make a magic ring (MR). Place 6 single crochet (sc) in the magic circle and pull to tighten. Do not join. You will continue to work in the round.
  2. Increase [inc] in each stitch (st) around.
  3. [inc, sc] x 6 repeating around.
  4. [inc, sc x 2] x 6 repeating around.
  5. [inc, sc x 3] x 6 repeating around.
  6. [inc, sc x 4] x 6 repeating around.
  7. sc in the back loop only (BLO) in each st around. Slip stitch (sl st) to first st. Chain 1.
  8. sc x 2, [bobble, sc x 5] x 5, bobble, sc x 3
  9. hdc x 36 around.
  10. [bobble, sc x 5] x 6
  11. hdc x 36
  12. sc x 4, [bobble, sc x 5] x 5, bobble, sc x 1
  13. hdc x 36
  14. sc x 2, [bobble, sc x 5] x 5, bobble, sc x 3
  15. hdc x 36
  16. [bobble, sc x 5] x 6
  17. hdc x 36. Sl st loosely around the top row x 36. Tie off and weave in ends.

Thanks so much for choosing my Bobble Dots Pint Cozy! I hope you love your new make and use it to eat some deliciously yummy ice cream this summer!
