How to Crochet the Spike Stitch
I’ve been loving adding interesting patterns and color work to my crochet designs and the spike stitch is a simple way to embellish your work! The stitches are simple, just worked in varying spaces, and combined with different colors it creates a beautiful design!

The spike stitch is a simple crochet stitch created with a combination of normal single crochet stitches and elongated single crochet stitches worked into spaces in varying rows below. This elongated stitch creates a vertical line of color. Most commonly it is worked 1-2 rows down, but feel free to work even 3 or 4 rows down!
Today, we will learn how to work a spk1 (spike stitch 1 row below) and a spk2 (spike stitch 2 rows below). These are both used in combination in The Stitchwork Scarf to create the colorful pattern design across Block Four.
spk1: insert the hook into the stitch space one row below. yo and draw up an elongated loop to the current row height. yo and draw through two loops to complete the stitch.

spk2: insert the hook into the stitch space two rows below. yo and draw up an elongated loop to the current row height. yo and draw through two loops to complete the stitch.
