How to Crochet The Granny Stitch

The granny stitch…not just for grannies!! This has to be one of the most common crochet stitch clusters and it is easy to see why. It is quick to learn, easy to work up and SO fun to play around with!

The granny stitch is formed by working clusters of double crochet stitches into the same space. Some patterns may call for a chain in between the clusters and some may not. You can work granny stitch in a single color or in multiple colors for a striped granny stitch pattern! If you choose to stripe the pattern, you will need to cut yarn and weave in the ends at the end of each row.

The granny stitch is used in Block Ten of The Stitchwork Scarf. In this block, 3 dc sts are worked together in a granny cluster. Learn each of the stitches included in this whimsical scarf design by checking out the stitch-a-long HERE!
